Our Take-Home Whitening System
Your home whitening kit contains the Poladay tooth whitening system. Please follow the instructions carefully for safe, optimal results. Photographs are for information only because individual results vary from patient to patient, and some patients may not be candidates for this treatment.
Who Is Teeth Whitening For?
- Patients whose teeth have yellowed or dulled over time
- People with stains from coffee, tea or other foods and drinks
- Anyone preparing for a special occasion or wanting a fresher smile
- Patients planning cosmetic work such as bonding or veneers, where colour matching matters
Your dentist will check that your teeth and gums are healthy before you begin. Whitening works on natural tooth surfaces and does not change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers.
Treatment Guideline
There are two strengths of Poladay treatment, 7.5% and 9.5%. Use the guideline for your kit.
- 7.5% treatment: One or two 30-minute sessions per day, or one 45-minute session per day
- 9.5% treatment: Two 15-minute sessions per day, or one 30-minute session per day
How to Whiten at Home
- Place a small drop of gel into every compartment of the tray for the teeth being treated.
- Seat the tray with the gel around the teeth.
- Wipe away excess gel in your mouth with a tissue or dry soft brush.
- Leave the tray in place for the time shown in the guideline above.
- After treatment, remove the tray. Rinse the tray and your mouth with lukewarm water.
Tips for the Best Results
- Do not eat, drink or smoke during treatment.
- Do not smoke immediately after treatment. Wait at least two hours.
- Avoid or limit strongly coloured foods and drinks for at least 48 hours after the treatment period.
- Use the gel at room temperature.
Sensitive During Treatment?
Some patients experience mild sensitivity during whitening. If this happens, take a break from treatment for a day or two. You can also shorten your treatment time. Taking a break or reducing the time will not change your result, so it is fine to take your time.
Precautions
- Use under the supervision of a dentist.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Not for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women or children under 14 years old.
- If you have a history of chemical allergies, have allergy testing done by a specialist before using these products.
- Stop use and contact your dentist if you notice unusual sensitivity or reactions.
- Do not inject the whitening gels into the body.
Before Your Visit
- Book a checkup and cleaning first if you are due for one, as clean teeth whiten more evenly.
- Tell us about any sensitivity, gum problems, allergies or medications.
- Let us know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Think about what shade you would like, and ask us any questions.
After Your Treatment
- Follow the treatment guideline and avoid strongly coloured foods and drinks for 48 hours after treatment.
- Keep up good brushing and flossing to help your results last.
- Whitening effects vary, so touch-ups may be needed over time. Ask your dentist what to expect.
- Call us if you have lasting sensitivity, gum irritation or any unusual reaction.
